HOW WE SELECT OUR
Ingredients
HOW WE SELECT OUR
Any ingredient that is not pure water is a burden on the environment. Whether it is naturally based or not. Therefore, no detergent or cosmetic product can ever be "environmentally friendly". However, we humans cannot do without such products in our everyday lives - primarily for hygienic reasons.Â
That is why everdrop's household and personal care products should be as environmentally friendly as possible. This means that only substances that can be broken down quickly and thus give nature the chance to regenerate are released into waste water. When selecting ingredients, we not only consider how the raw materials are obtained. But also how their use affects the environment and climate. We want to use ingredients that have a lower impact on the environment and climate.
Natural-based ingredients are often the most environmentally friendly option. However, "natural" is not always more sustainable. There are also cases where synthetic or semi-synthetic ingredients are beneficial for the environment, climate and people.
This applies, for example, when...
natural-based ingredients come from environmentally harmful monocultures with high pesticide use, some of which can also be very problematic sociallyÂ
natural-based ingredients are very energy-intensive in the extraction of raw materials and therefore generate more CO2 emissions
natural-based ingredients have to be dosed higher, e.g. to achieve a sufficient cleaning effect, and therefore have a greater impact on the environment
natural-based substances are less biodegradable - many substances in nature are designed to be as durable as possible!
natural-based substances have a higher allergy potential for humans (e.g. very intense fragrances)
This is why we also use synthetic and semi-synthetic substances in some everdrop products - if there is no more sustainable natural alternative for them.

Our products &
Probiotics
Function
These "good" bacteria help you clean naturally and sustainably. The moment they come into contact with water, the spores contained in the tab become active. The microorganisms then settle on surfaces, break down organic deposits there and thus displace pathogenic and odour-causing bacteria in the long term.
Environmental impact
Find out everything about probiotics in our magazine and on the "Innovations" subpage.
Food-grade citric acid of 100% natural origin
Function
Citric acid is a true household miracle cure. The organic acid is strong against limescale and serves as a pH regulator.
Environmental impact
Citric acid occurs as a natural component in many fruits, for example. It is readily biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
Dye
Function
To colour the product as a distinguishing feature.
Environmental impact
We only use food colourings that are harmless to the environment and are obtained from sweet potato, beetroot, apple and cherry.
Nonionic surfactant
Function
Surfactants have the special property of reducing the surface tension of water. This enables them to effectively dissolve and remove dirt and grease. This makes them one of the most important active ingredients in our products.
Environmental impact
Surfactants are indispensable for the cleaning process, but they are not entirely uncritical for the environment. By law, surfactants used for cleaning purposes in the EU must be readily biodegradable. However, they are often produced on the basis of petroleum. This surfactant used is instead based on renewable and certified raw materials.
Natural perfume oil based on essential oils
Function
Leaves a pleasant and subtle fresh scent when applied. A fragrance not only makes the product more pleasant to use, but also masks unpleasant inherent odours of natural and naturally based ingredients.
Environmental impact
We primarily use natural fragrance oils based on essential oils. However, some products also contain synthetic fragrances. These synthetic fragrances are not automatically always worse for the environment than natural fragrances. This is because in the production of synthetic fragrances, it is possible to explicitly avoid substances that have a higher risk or allergy potential or even other negative properties on humans and the environment. It is also possible that a natural fragrance with a particularly long-lasting and intense scent is not easily degradable. Our goal is to make our products as environmentally friendly and biodegradable as possible, which is why we always weigh up the different factors in our fragrances in the best possible way. Our products as a whole achieve excellent biodegradability values according to OECD standards.

We only use food colourings that are harmless to the environment and are obtained from sweet potato, beetroot, apple and cherry.
Denaturant
Function
Its bitter taste prevents the tabs from being swallowed accidentally.
Environmental impact
Even the lowest concentrations lead to an extremely bitter taste. Only very small quantities are required for the effect necessary for the effect. These are harmless to the environment.
Sugar alcohol
Function
Moisture regulator and binder. In cosmetic products, it is also a care component.
Environmental impact
Our glycerine is obtained from plant-based and natural raw materials without genetic engineering. It is biodegradable and harmless to the environment and humans.

This surfactant is instead based on renewable and certified raw materials.
Mineral salt
Function
Unavoidable minor component of other important ingredients. Not actively added as a filler in the context of sustainability.
Environmental impact
Natural salt with good environmental compatibility
Bleach activator
Function
Acts as a turbo for the bleach in low concentrations.
Environmental impact
TAED is readily biodegradable, but is petrochemical-based and is currently difficult to replace with natural, efficient substances. We are looking for an efficient alternative on a renewable basis.

Denaturant
